Ivory Guard Re-release

Published 27/04/2015 by leannecrabtree

So my author friend, Natalie Herzer, is re-releasing her book Ivory Guard after it has had a good editing. In response I feel it’s only right to help her get the word out and I’m going to post my original review as well as the book info.

Natalie Herzer

Paranormal Romance

Life will make you stumble…

One peaceful afternoon Lillian finds two angels in her living room – wings and gloriole and all – telling her she is an Ivory. Half human and half angel, she is born to fight for humankind and guard the hellholes where the membrane between worlds is at its weakest.
She, an important warrior? Yeah, riiiight.

Life can make you fall…

Raz might be an angel, but he doesn’t do compassion. His job is to train and make her a leader. So Lillian will just have to suck it up when she discovers the deadly truth behind his words. When she does exactly that, he has to admit there’s more to the bookworm than he thought. Much more. But there’s one thing he shouldn’t forget – in his world feelings come with a price. Is he willing to pay?

Love will give you wings.

My Review

4.5 stars.

I’ve been Natalie’s plot tester/beta reader with this, as well as it’s proof reader, from early on and I really enjoyed it, now I’ve finally gotten to read it’s ending.

The thing with Natalie is she always come up with something original. This is the first time I’ve read a book, or even heard of a book, about a team of half angels/half humans who are trained by angels to takeout demons. The same could be said about her Patroness series; once again, I’ve never read anything like it. That’s what I like about her books: they’re different.

I don’t want to give too much away but this is a story of good (angels) versus evil (demons) to put it simply. The struggle of eighteen year old Lillian as she realises her life is about to change whether she wants it to or not and her journey from bookworm to fearless leader with the help of her Ivory Guard and Raz, the angel of secrets.

I really enjoyed it, like I did her Patroness series and I’m looking forward to reading the second book in the series, Ebony Fight, to see how everything works out for her and her team.

It’s published!

So I’ve just published Charlotte & Sebastian to Smashwords and enrolled it in the site-wide promotion–which means it’s FREE!–so it is now available to read in various formats and hopefully it going through the “meat-grinder” process hasn’t made it unreadable. Unfortunately, it hasn’t automatically been added to the Premium Catalogue, and been made available to other sites–B&N, iTunes–but I’ll be working to make it so when I get in from work later. Happy reading! 😀

Merch

Published 15/07/2014 by leannecrabtree

I had this idea to do some merchandise in relation to my books: bookmarks, postcards, badges etc and have just been scouring the net trying to find some reasonably priced ones. I found this site that looked promising. Less than $10 for 50 bookmarks. Uploaded my design and everything and still cheap and then I go to checkout and suddenly it’s charging me $90 delivery. Should have known it was too good to be true 😛

So my question to my lovely readers/fellow bloggers and writers is: do you know a good value site for merch printing?

AND for those of you who don’t own a kindle, I’m publishing Charlotte& Sebastian to Smashwords on Friday or Saturday – the 18th or 19th of this month! 😀

Recent Purchases

So some of you may know that I am obsessed with Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series and I’ve been pining after book 6 in the series since I finished the fifth book last October. It came out last month and I’ve been secretly waiting for the price to drop but with it being a new release, it’s unlikely that will happen for another few months so I caved and bought it off Amazon and I am impatiently waiting for it to arrive so I can lose myself in Charley and Reyes’ world.

While I was on Amazon I decided to buy the last book in Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series, too, so I can find out how it all ends. I’ve just got the last two to read now and then that’s another series finished.

I also couldn’t resist buying Tim O’Rourke’s Vampire Seeker from The Works for £1.99. I absolutely love the book and the chance to own it in paperback was not going to be ignored. If you haven’t read a book by the author and love paranormal books that are slightly macabre but have really good plot twists then you should read Tim O’Rourke, he’s amazing.

And finally, I’ve noticed my taste in books is changing from Contemporary Romances to more Murder Mystery/Whodunnit sort of books. I picked up James Patterson’s Kiss the Girls at a charity book sale and really liked the sound of it. In regards to this, I’d just like to know whether I should read the first Alex Cross book Along Came a Spider first or not?

Stuff

Published 15/06/2014 by leannecrabtree

A few things really:

  1. I haven’t been requesting any titles off Netgalley as of late as I try and work my way through my 400+ books on my kindle and in paperback. I think that’s enough for anyone to be reading through without adding newer, more recent books to the list.
  2. I now have another job, which is going to start taking up a bit more of my time but it’s still only part time so I’ll still get some reading and writing done.
  3. The Concubine is now on Chapter 5 – 9104 words so far and I’m almost ready to start Chapter 6, which is good as it’s still going strong 🙂
  4. I’ve been thinking of doing a post at the end/start of a month to do a sort of mini showcase of the books I’ve read in that time with recommendations for the better ones. What do we think of the idea?

And I’m back!

Published 04/06/2014 by leannecrabtree

So I’ve copied the first four chapters and plumped them out a bit and guess what? The word count is now 6939, that’s an extra 500 words added. Woohoo! I knew it was a good idea. It’s also helped me get that pain-in-the-butt sex scene (no pun intended) going in the right direction. There are now no errors in transitioning and I have a good idea of how it’s going to go.

Now I’m off again to hopefully finish the chapter before I have to go out 😀

Ciao for now!

Off to write!

Published 04/06/2014 by leannecrabtree

So for the first time in a while, everything else is going on the back burner while I mess around with The Concubine. I’ve already started. I’ve opened a new document and I’m copying bits over little by little and plumping them out a bit before moving onto the next section.

Old version word count: 6439

Let’s see if there is a huge jump in the number by the time I’m finished in a few hours 🙂

The Concubine

Published 27/05/2014 by leannecrabtree

So my attention has switched to The Concubine now and for the first time in a while, I’m struggling with a sex scene between my characters. I think it’s because she’s a virgin…I can’t quite figure out how she’s going to react to his, erm…attraction to her. She’s a tough character and I can’t decide whether she’d give in to him or struggle against what he’s doing to her body. Driving me a little mad. Any suggestions? You can find a small chunk of the story in the “W.I.P – Excerpts” tab above.
