Ivory Guard Re-release

Published 27/04/2015 by leannecrabtree

So my author friend, Natalie Herzer, is re-releasing her book Ivory Guard after it has had a good editing. In response I feel it’s only right to help her get the word out and I’m going to post my original review as well as the book info.

Natalie Herzer

Paranormal Romance

Life will make you stumble…

One peaceful afternoon Lillian finds two angels in her living room – wings and gloriole and all – telling her she is an Ivory. Half human and half angel, she is born to fight for humankind and guard the hellholes where the membrane between worlds is at its weakest.
She, an important warrior? Yeah, riiiight.

Life can make you fall…

Raz might be an angel, but he doesn’t do compassion. His job is to train and make her a leader. So Lillian will just have to suck it up when she discovers the deadly truth behind his words. When she does exactly that, he has to admit there’s more to the bookworm than he thought. Much more. But there’s one thing he shouldn’t forget – in his world feelings come with a price. Is he willing to pay?

Love will give you wings.

My Review

4.5 stars.

I’ve been Natalie’s plot tester/beta reader with this, as well as it’s proof reader, from early on and I really enjoyed it, now I’ve finally gotten to read it’s ending.

The thing with Natalie is she always come up with something original. This is the first time I’ve read a book, or even heard of a book, about a team of half angels/half humans who are trained by angels to takeout demons. The same could be said about her Patroness series; once again, I’ve never read anything like it. That’s what I like about her books: they’re different.

I don’t want to give too much away but this is a story of good (angels) versus evil (demons) to put it simply. The struggle of eighteen year old Lillian as she realises her life is about to change whether she wants it to or not and her journey from bookworm to fearless leader with the help of her Ivory Guard and Raz, the angel of secrets.

I really enjoyed it, like I did her Patroness series and I’m looking forward to reading the second book in the series, Ebony Fight, to see how everything works out for her and her team.

Book phases

Published 20/05/2014 by leannecrabtree

I seem to have gotten over my New Adult phase, though I must still have about 50 books to read on my Kindle in the genre, and gone back to my love of Young Adult–which I seem to favour in paperbacks for some reason.

I’m just starting Betrayals, book two in Lili St. Crow’s Strange Angels series. If I’m being honest I can’t really remember the first book that well, only that the main characters dad was turned into a zombie within the first 40/50 pages and her struggle to find out who did it. My review of the first book wasn’t very helpful either 🙂 We’ll see if I can remember.

I’ve just finished the second book in Rachel Hawkins’ Hex Hall series, Raising Demons/Demonglass, and really enjoyed it so I’ve just gone and bought the third and final book Spellbound so I can see how it all plays out. I’m hoping for happy endings all round.

I recently read Kresley Cole’s Poison Princess, too. When I bought it I had no idea what it was about, she’s just an author I like, and though it took me a while to get in to, once I did I thought it was pretty good and can’t wait to read the second book to see what happens between Jackson and Evie.

I also found myself purchasing paperback copies of Gena Showalter’s White Rabbit Chronicles from my beloved The Works shop. I seem to have a love of zombies books–so long as there is some romance in them, too, of course–and look forward to reading them as I’m a big fan of the author’s Lords of the Underworld series and hope her YA books will be just as good.

Have you recently read a good series that you would recommend? Or have/are you currently going through a phase of only really reading one genre of book and if so, what is it?

X-ray function on Kindle?

Published 10/03/2014 by leannecrabtree

Okay. So, I kinda drowned my kindle in the smallest amount of water possible when I slipped getting out of the bath–not a good idea to take it too near water, people!–and bought myself a replacement and upgrade, going from a Kindle 4 to a Kindle Paperwhite.

I’m still getting used to it and stumbled across the x-ray feature. I’ve seen it mentioned on Amazon as having “x-ray enabled” but don’t quite get it. So I was just wondering if anyone could help me?

Ready to go…

Published 09/10/2013 by leannecrabtree

So I spent an hour or two reading through Wolf Claimed earlier and making sure there weren’t any major mistakes in it (if you find some when you read it I’m so sorry!!) and changed a few things so that it made more sense and then made it kindle friendly. It is now ready to be published:

readytogo

I know it will likely take 24 hours to become available on the Amazon sites, so I’m thinking either Thursday for Friday publication or Friday for Saturday. I haven’t made my mind up yet, but it will be available to buy in the next few days.

I just really hope you like it 😀

Changes to September Challenge (Goodreads)

Published 13/09/2013 by leannecrabtree

As you may remember I said I was going to read 9 out of the 14 options that they gave us in the challenge. Well, I changed my mind and decided to go all out.

We had to pick book covers which contained these:

Hot Male (I’ll leave you to interpret this one!)
Beautiful Woman
Artistic Cover
Vampire
Blood
Castle
Moon
Car
Couple
Gothic
Rose
Tattoo
Terrible
Dress

So here are the books I picked and in the correct order to correspond with the list:

lordofthevamps craved touched firstbookdemons birthofnyxian revengesweet moondance wrongwaysdownkindred eternitycure briarrose darkcraving turning dieforme

So far I’ve managed 8 out of the 14:

Lord of the Vampires – Gena Showalter 3 out of 5

Craved – Stephanie Nelson  4 out of 5

Touched – A.J. Aalto 5 out of 5

The First Book of Demons – Raquel Dove

The Birth of the Nyxian – Amanda K. Browning DNF

Revenge is Sweet – Misty Evans

Moon Dance – J.R. Rain

Wrong Ways Down – Stacia Kane

The Turning – Jennifer Armintrout

Die For Me – Amy Plum 3 out of 5

September Challenge (Goodreads)

Published 03/09/2013 by leannecrabtree

So, on Goodreads, I’m a member of a few groups and one of the more active (Paranormal Addicts & Newbies – Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy) does challenges every month and some full year ones. Well this month it’s visually pleasing. This is a good thing because it means I have to read some of my older books that have been on my kindle for over a year.

We had to pick book covers which contained these:

Hot Male (I’ll leave you to interpret this one!)
Beautiful Woman
Artistic Cover
Vampire
Blood
Castle
Moon
Car
Couple
Gothic
Rose

Terrible
Dress

And pick a difficulty rating: 3 (easy) 6 (medium) 9 (hard) —- I went for 9.

So here are the books I’ll be reading for the challenge:

I’m currently reading Die For Me and Birth of the Nyxian.

A Break…

Published 21/08/2013 by leannecrabtree

…from a couple of things.

One:  ARC’s. I haven’t requested any new ones from NetGalley in an attempt to try and work my way through the list of books on my Kindle. The number is still in the 700’s and though I have cut down on buying new one’s it still happens every so often when I cant resist a book that’s price has reduced that’s on my wish-list. If you are on GoodReads you can view my list here. If not, then I’m sure you can imagine how long it is.

Two: Wolf Claimed. It’s kinda hit a bit of a brick-wall. I’m sure it’ll all come back to me soon but for the time being it’s on hold. Instead I’m concentrating on other stories and working my way through both my paperbacks and kindle stories (one of each at a time). Finger’s crossed I’ll have good news for you in the next blog post.

Ciao for now 🙂
